July 4, 2019. Annandale, Mason District. Fairfax County, Virginia.
Happy Independence Day
The colony of Virginia was home to so many great patriots. We are fortunate to live among their statues and monuments. We are even more fortunate to be able to visit the places they visited. We can go to Mount Vernon. We can go to Monticello and Montpelier. We can traverse the same Little River Turnpike that they traversed. What it must have been like in 1776 in Falls Church – the meeting house for so many of the Virginians gathered to the Continental Congresses. As we drive from one end of Mason District to the other – contemplate what this sleepy countryside might have been and what it could be.
The United States is the greatest nation on earth. Our motto is E Pluribus Unum. Out of Many, One.
We come from distant lands. We come from different traditions. We are diverse. We are many.
Yet, we are bound by a “common” goal – to elevate ourselves individually, so that the common whole emerges through the free exchange of goods, services, and ideas to be greater than the sum of its parts.
Our nation is not a collective. It is a collection of individuals. It is the individual and the individual’s pursuit of happiness in life, liberty and property that increases the wealth and spirit of all the inhabitants of our land.
When elected, I will do my part to return Mason District to its traditional role: a place where each individual has the opportunity to thrive. Where each individual can pursue happiness. Where all inhabitants can feel secure in their life and property. Where each individual can pray to their Creator and give thanks for our District, our County, our Commonwealth and our Country.
Happy Independence Day and God Bless the United States of America.
